Pipa Tapas Bar

This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It’s enchanting, elegant, full of rich decor as whimisical crystal chandliers line the ceilings, all perfectally mismatched, hanging over wooden tables you’d expect to find in a castle or a King Arthur tale. There is so much to look at all at once but what is so magically wonderful is how it all flows to together seamlessly without overwhelming the eye. You simply look at one beautiful section after the other while eating delicious food. The word Pipa is Spanish slang for “having a good time.” The restaurant Pipa serves Spanish-inspired tapas with Latin flair. Tapas y Mas refers to the fact that Pipa does offer more than just tapas , for example soup, salad, lunch, brunch, etc. When guests dine at Pipa they are encouraged to order a number of items and share them “family style.” This approach is supported by the communal style set up of the dining room and signature communal bar table. At Pipa, guests should be treated respectfully yet warmly, as if they were invited to a villa in the Mediterranean and you are their host. Pipa was opened in June 2000 by ABC Home and Chef Douglas Rodriguez. Chef Rodriguez came over from Patria, a groundbreaking, NY Times 3-star, Nuevo Latino restaurant owned by restaurateur Phil Suarez. Chef Andrew DiCataldo took over Patria at that time and also earned three stars from the NY Times. In October 2003, Mr. Suarez partnered with ABC and took over the management of Pipa. At this point Chef DiCataldo became Executive Chef, followed by Maximo Tejada in October of 2004 and Chefs de Cuisine Freddy and Virgilio de la Cruz in January of 2008. Pipa is most known for its innovative take on traditional Spanish tapas, as well as its décor (designed by ABC Home), communal bar table, music and sangria. The decor draws its inspiration from the castle basements of the Middle Ages amid the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean, hence the juxtaposition of exposed brick, seashells and chandeliers

Carasan

If a sheer work of art is what comes to mind upon viewing any of the designs of Carasan, then you have called to mind a comparison that is not far from the truth, as the designers are inspired by art and nature in all that they create for their line. Staying true to their commitment of providing quality not quantity, Carasan will never be a mass-market company. Says Cassandra, "It is like buying art. Does your client buy original art, a limited edition lithograph or does she buy a mass-produced print? Our line is for free-spirited and self-assured women who are youthful at any age and want to wear high quality, one-of-a-kind designs." Their inspiration dates back to 1920's designers Erte and Fortuny. Offers Terri, "The Carasan line is one that transcends time. These are items you will want to pass down to your daughter. The Carasan woman is the soul of a Victorian socialite born into the body of an urban artist. She is a woman of today who wants fun, exciting clothing that will last season after season."

Carasan epitomizes today's young American Couture, transcending time with its authentic creations and looking back into history for inspiration, not just for their designs, but also how we all impact the world in which we live forever.
Terri and Cassandra Rosenthal are the mother-daughter design duo who are the faces behind this small, but internationally known label. When she could not find a job in New York City, after moving there to attend college, Cassandra asked her mother to go into business with her. They started Carasan Designs LLC when Cassandra was only 18 years old and had just begun attending classes at the Fashion Institute of Design in New York City. She has since graduated from F.I.T with honors, receiving her Bachelor's of Science degree. While attending college she fell in love with New York and made it not only her home but also, the home for Carasan, which is now based in Brooklyn. Terri holds down their studio at her southern home base at the family's small farm in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. You may also run into her while she commutes from West Virginia via the train to New York a few times a month.

Carasan's garments and one-of-a-kind jewelry have been worn by celebrities such as Tia Texada and Alysia Reiner. Since beginning operations in 2001, Carasan has been involved with the Golden Trailer Awards Show, has had placement in independent films, and has been seen in numerous magazines.
